Going to an autumn wedding? This is how to dress for it

Just because the temperature has dropped, doesn’t mean the style stakes have

June may be the most popular month to say ‘I do’, but there are still plenty of people opting to host their Big Days in autumn and with that comes a plethora of wardrobe conundrums.

After all, the standard wedding guest sartorial rules still apply, but with a considerably higher chance of goosebumps taking over your entire body.

The plus side to being a guest at any autumn nuptials however are that the pieces you model to a glitzy festive soiree can also be the same pieces that work well for autumn weddings: think rugged metallic, red (yes, red to a wedding!) and suiting.

It’s time to rip up the rule book as you know it and follow these tips for optimum wedding guest dressing.

Keep it cute in a suit

On the streets of this season’s fashion month, it was all about suiting. And the best thing about the trend is that it can be translated to a multitude of different occasions. Whether you opt for foolproof pastels or vamp it up in darker ensembles, suiting is the perfect option for an autumn wedding.

Pair with either slingbacks and a mini bag or opt for more of a Stevie Nicks vibe and wear with towering platforms and a slew of gold necklaces.

Sleeves are your friends

There’s nothing to say you can’t stay true to your slip-dress instincts at an autumn wedding; but with colder weather comes a higher chance of goose bumps, and frost bite, which aren’t necessarily the cutest accessory for any look. So keep it sensible, but still slinky, and opt for a long-sleeved slip dress.

Given their simplicity, they look best when worn with either a similarly minimal shoe or a chunky platform.

Time to shine

The best thing about attending a wedding in autumn is that the outfit you choose can carry you right through the festive season.

When the temperature really drops later on in the year, autumn-wedding-metallics can still work with an oversized blazer thrown over the top and some kitten heeled boots. Now's the time to embody the golden girl you always knew you were.

Lady in red

While in summer it would be fashion sacrilege to wear red to a wedding, but come autumn it makes no sense to invest in pieces which won't be in vogue until the following summer.

Therefore, use an autumn wedding as your moment to embrace bold and unapologetic colours. Our fave? Obviously nature's colour of danger, red.

Make friends with a jumpsuit

Wearing one in summer would make you sweat from crevices that don’t need to reach such temperatures, but by winter it’s necessary to keep everything as toasty as possible and so for this, we recommend a jumpsuit.

Pair with tottering heels and a pouch bag for one very chic autumn wedding guest outfit.
