Don't look down! Body-cam footage of Standard reporter's adrenaline-pumping bungee jump over London

Standard reporter Tom Powell bungee jumps from above the O2 to celebrate release of new film

It’s a clear morning and from my vantage point 160 feet above the O2 Arena I can see London in all its glory.

The silky Thames sneaks its way through an army of dazzling skyscrapers and the sun’s rays bounce joyfully off the dome in every direction.

But I’m about to be brought back down to earth… Extremely quickly and with just a bungee cord to break the fall.

It didn’t cross my mind that a bungee jump would be at all frightening until I teetered on the edge of a small metal box and stared at the cold, hard concrete car-park below. Gulp.

Milliseconds later I was hurtling through the air, screaming my lungs out and putting an end to a thousand Londoners' well-earned Saturday lie-ins.

It’s an extraordinary adrenaline rush that I didn’t come down from until Monday morning. Luckily, the dizziness didn’t last quite that long.

The only downside is that the go-pro strapped to me captured every moment and my petrified screams have now been immortalised.

The Standard was invited to jump to celebrate the release of Nerve, an adrenaline-pumping American thriller which revolves around an online truth or dare game.

It is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the creators of hit documentary Catfish.

Nerve is available on digital download on 4 December and on DVD and Blu-ray on 5 December.
