Everybody Loves Raymond star Brad Garrett has added to the number of allegations surrounding Ellen DeGeneres and the workplace culture at her daytime talk show.

Speaking on Twitter, Garrett alleged that he knows “more than one who were treated horribly by her,” and claimed it was “common knowledge” in the industry.

Garrett shared an article detailing the most recent development in the saga, a Variety report in which an apology note from DeGeneres to her staff was featured. The statement followed multiple allegations of racial microaggressions, racist comments, the reported firing of staff following medical and bereavement leave and the treatment of the show’s crew during the coronavirus pandemic.

Although previous reports mostly fixated on the behaviour of DeGeneres’ executive producers (one of whom is to ‘exit his role immediately’), Garrett tweeted, “Sorry but it comes from the top.”

He also tagged DeGeneres’ personal Twitter handle @TheEllenShow. According to the Daily Mail, Garrett appeared on the show six times between 2004 and 2007.

DeGeneres has not responded on Twitter.

Warner Bros. confirmed that an internal review was being conducted into the workplace culture at The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which included interviewing current and former members of staff about their treatment. Speaking to Variety, a spokesperson said they had “identified several staffing changes” and “appropriate measures to address the issues that have been raised.”

DeGeneres’ message to her staff read, “On day one of our show, I told everyone in our first meeting that ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ would be a place of happiness — no one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would be treated with respect. Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to learn that this has not been the case.”

“My name is on the show and everything we do and I take responsibility for that.”

Although she did not name names, DeGeneres continued, “As we’ve grown exponentially, I’ve not been able to stay on top of everything and relied on others to do their jobs as they knew I’d want them done. Clearly some didn’t. That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again.”

DeGeneres also said in her message that “people who work with me and for me are speaking on my behalf and misrepresenting who I am,” adding, “That has to stop.”

The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been running for 17 years, and over the pandemic, it moved to an at-home model. On its YouTube channel, a number of stars including TikTok’s Brad Mondo and others have shared videos on the channel amongst throwback clips from the talk show.
