'Warn women about extra risk to baby of home births'

Women should be told that babies born at home have a higher risk of dying, a health watchdog warns today.

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence says women should be reassured that the chance of their baby dying during childbirth is low - but they should know the risk is higher if serious complications occur at home rather than in hospital.
