US Election 2016: Democrats in London still hopeful for Clinton win

Michael Clarke9 November 2016

Democrat supporters living in the UK gathered in central London tonight in eager anticipation of Hillary Clinton becoming the first female President of the United States.

Hundreds of expat Americans met at Marylebone’s Sports Bar and Grill to watch the election results throughout the night.

The earliest the presidential race could be decided is at 4am on Wednesday morning, with Barack Obama declared as President of the United States shortly after 4.30am in 2012.

Karin Robinson, Former Chariman of the Democrats Abroad UK, said: "Democrats have been in power for two election cycles and a brilliant African American man maybe handing over power to a brilliant woman.

"Everybody is feeling confident, happy and optimistic. We are just ready to go."

Democrats Abroad UK are set to cheer on Hillary Clinton into the early hours of Wednesday morning in the final stretch of the marathon election.
