Tycoon finds son dead at home

Police fear the son of a multi-millionaire property tycoon was murdered after letting a visitor into his home.

Daniel Keats, 48, was found dead on the floor of the £2million house in Hampstead Garden Suburb, which he had been given by his father, property tycoon Victor Keats.

Bachelor Mr Keats, who lived only two streets away from his parents, worked for his father's property company.

He was found when his parents became suspicious after being unable to make contact with him on Tuesday evening and went round to his house.

A family friend said today that the couple, who were very close to their son, were devastated and were being comforted by relatives.

Police found no evidence that force or violence was used to gain entry to Mr Keats's house and are treating his death as suspicious.

Early inquiries will centre on the possibility that the killer was someone known to Mr Keats, whom he trusted enough to let inside his home.

Det Chief Insp Martin Lee, who is leading the investigation, said:"We are keeping an open mind as to whether it is murder and inquiries are continuing."

Neighbours described Mr Keats as a "sweet, gentle man" who was a keep-fit fanatic and was particularly close to his parents.

One said: "He was kind and caring, a very private person and a thoroughly nice man. He had lived here for around three years, probably longer. His father bought the house as an investment."
