Traveller sues over African crash injuries

Lawsuit: Claudia Stachelhaus suffered a broken neck, vertebrae and nerve damage

A holidaymaker almost paralysed in a bus crash while on safari is suing the tour operator claiming the driver was speeding.

Claudia Stachelhaus, 36, from Shoreditch, suffered a broken neck, vertebrae and nerve damage to her arm when she was flung from the vehicle in the Namibian desert last November as it swung round a bend and toppled over.

The former investment banker has now launched legal action against Exodus, who organised the £3,000 holiday, saying the bus was travelling at "unnerving speed".

It was almost 12 hours after the crash before Miss Stachelhaus was given a CT scan and she spent over a week in a local hospital.

On return to Britain, she was told she needed an emergency operation and is still waiting to see if there is permanent damage to her neck. An Exodus spokesman said an investigation was under way.
