Theresa May pressure over suspected killer

Theresa May: Under pressure over claims a suspected murderer entered the country twice
12 April 2012

Theresa May faced growing pressure today over Britain's border security after it emerged that a suspected murderer slipped into the country twice.

Mihai Milea, 27, is wanted in Romania after a 71-year-old man was strangled and had his throat cut in a burglary in May last year, according to The Sun.

He fled to the UK where he attacked health worker Martin Wilson in Notting Hill in a burglary.

After escaping to the Continent, he slipped back into the UK and was arrested at a hostel in Elephant and Castle.

He was jailed for seven years and two months at Woolwich crown court after pleading guilty to robbery and now faces extradition to Romania.

The revelations will increase pressure on the Home Secretary.

MPs on the Home Affairs Committee will tomorrow question Brodie Clark, the former head of the UK Border Force who quit his post amid a dispute with Mrs May.

Mr Clark was suspended by UK Border Agency chief Rob Whiteman, who claims he admitted allowing border staff to relax checks beyond the extent of a pilot scheme authorised by Mrs May.

He denies exceeding his authority and has left his post to pursue a claim of constructive dismissal.
