SW-fun is the winner in postcode poll

13 April 2012

People in south-west London are more outgoing and better at making new friends, according to research.

Residents of Battersea, where chef Gordon Ramsay and singers Dannii Minogue and Mark Owen live, are the most enthusiastic socialisers.

Five of London's top 10 "sociable postcodes" are prefixed SW, making it the most represented area in a poll by CitySocialising, an online network for young professionals.

W1 tops the list as the location for people to meet-up after making contact on the internet. In second place is WC1 which covers Soho, Holborn and Bloomsbury.

The area around Canary Wharf - E14 - is third, with Battersea's SW11 the highest entry from a mostly residential area at number four.

N1, which includes Islington's bar-laden Upper Street, is in fifth place followed by Wimbledon. Kilburn, NW6, makes it to number seven and SW1, Putney and Wandsworth fill the final three places.

Sanchita Saha, CEO and founder of CitySocialising, said: "One of the great things about being a Londoner is the abundance of opportunities the city gives to go out and try new experiences and make new friends."
