12 April 2012

REBECCA Thomas, one of the City's foremost female players, has quit as chief executive of fund manager Legg Mason.

Her departure comes after several of the group's flagship investment funds had fallen sharply in value. She told colleagues: 'Now is a good time to take a break.'

Thomas, who was holidaying in France at one of her three homes, was not available for comment.

Legg Mason said: 'It was a mutual decision.'
