Sunday Telegraph

With operations stretching from Hong Kong to the Baltic states, Inchcape is the best placed of the car dealers to cope with a downturn in UK spending. Shares, which are at a lower rating than rivals, are a buy at 1598p.

Baby goods retailer Mothercare has improved margins, ranges and product quality under chief executive Ben Gordon. Stores are also being refurbished and shares - currently at 316 1/2p - are seen as a good, medium-term buy.

Financial news and information service Hemscott recently took a major step forward with a £20.5 million deal for US company Big-dough. Shares at 43p look cheap when compared with international rivals.

The recent slip in shares at financial trading and spread betting company IFX Group looks harsh when considering efforts by chief executive Edmond Warner to restructure the group. Shares were 162 1/2p in December 2002 but are now 80p.

Celsis International, the microbial detection and analysis company, is worth a look at 35 1/2p after a 27% rise in half-year profits. The group is also on the acquisition trail and should take advantage of growth in its market.

The Business

The newspaper quotes the Aim & Ofex newsletter, which rated Synergy Healthcare a buy at 402 1/2p. The company is Britain‘s largest provider of sterile services for surgical instruments in the NHS. It recently reported a doubling in half-year profits and a strong order book.
