Steffi and her 'wonderful gift'

The delight of tennis stars Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf is clear as they show off their baby boy who they describe as a "wonderful gift".

The baby, Jaden Gil, who weighed 5.5lbs and was born three weeks prematurely, was delivered in Las Vegas with Agassi present at the birth. Despite their success at winning Grand Slams the couple described the birth of their new baby as the proudest day of their lives. They said in a statement: "This is the most proud day of our lives. We are thankful for this wonderful gift and are excited to begin our new lives as parents."

Agassi, 31, added: "We are absolutely ready for parenthood. Nothing is more important to us than the future security of our child." Graf said that the baby would be "smothered in love". The couple, who married in a private ceremony last week, began their relationship two years ago after both won titles in the 1999 French Open. Graf, 32, who won Wimbledon seven times, retired shortly after her victory at Roland Garros.

As well as owning properties in Germany, Las Vegas and Florida, the couple have just bought an £18 million estate near San Francisco, which will serve as the main marital home. The baby, who was born in the early hours of last Friday, will enjoy a life of considerable wealth. His parents' combined fortunes stand at more than £240 million, and he can expect to be worth an estimated £50 million by the time he is 18.
