Stars sweet success for charity

Sweet girl: Alex Best in the edible chocolate room
13 April 2012

It sounds like the most tempting of invites - and a host of stars were unable to resist a night at a chocolate ball.

Chocolate sculptures, chocolate fountains and an edible room were among the attractions at this year's annual ball for the Sargent Cancer Care for Children charity.

I'm a Celebrity ... star Alex Best even donned a chocolate corsage and jewellery to accessorise her Frank Usher dress at last night's event at London's Cafe Royal.

She was joined by Cherie Blair, Gaby Roslin, Linford Christie and fellow jungle campers Mike Read, Neil "Razor" Ruddock and Lord Brocket, who raised cash for the charity with his appearance on the reality programme.

The latter trio were even set to perform their charity single Jungle Rock for the 430 guests, who had paid £150 a ticket.

One-third of the proceeds from the single will go to the cancer charity, which counsels and supports children and their families.

A charity auction at the event included a rugby ball signed by the England team, champions' league tickets, and the chance to be a ringmaster for a day.

A spokeswoman for the charity said: "They have a theme every year. Chocolate is a nice tie-in with the children and it is fun and and has proved a great success tonight - everybody likes chocolate.

"The chocolate room is made entirely of chocolate. Everyone can go in and there are portraits of Alex Best and Lord Brocket - even the frames are made of chocolate. There is a chocolate chandelier and walls you can lick.

"Lord Brocket raised £153,000 when he was in the jungle, so they are going to try and raise £154,000 to try to beat him."
