Souter eyes Mayflower buses bid

BRIAN Souter, the multi-millionaire behind the Stagecoach bus and trains empire, has been named as a member of a consortium of Scottish businessmen eyeing a bid for parts of Mayflower, the bust bus builder.

Mayflower and its TransBus subsidiary went into administration this month after revelations of accounting irregularities at the group emerged. TransBus is a big employer in Scotland.

East Lancashire Coachbuilders has also emerged as a potential bidder. Bids have to be in by next week.
