Scandal of serial rapist with no visa

Evening Standard13 April 2012

A serial sex attacker who was in Britain illegally was jailed for 21 years at the Old Bailey today.

Lithuanian Darius Stasionis, 28, was found guilty of four separate attacks on women in two months.

He preyed on women in south-east London, attacking each of his victims near the Boiler House roundabout on the Thamesmead estate where he was staying.

Stasionis, who had overstayed his six-month visa, was described as "a predator" who lay in wait for his victims at a dark spot. He raped one woman and attempted to rape three others. Stasionis evaded capture until arrested for a separate offence in September 2003. DNA evidence then linked him to the attacks, although he still maintains his innocence.
