A police inspector who was sacked from his job killed his wife and his youngest daughter before committing suicide.

His two other teenage children are in hospital today in a critical condition after being stabbed.
Tobias Day, known as Toby, had been dismissed from his job as a neighbourhood officer with Leicestershire Police last week after a disciplinary hearing.

He killed his wife Samantha, 37, and his seven-year-old daughter Genevieve, and attacked his two other children Kimberly, 15, and Adam, 13, at their home in Robin Crescent, Melton Mowbray, before taking his own life yesterday.

The alarm was raised after Kimberly ran into a nearby school at about 4.15pm.
