Pub blitz on pint glasses

Plastic containers will replace pint glasses in thousands of pubs to try to stop brawlers glassing each other, a leading brewer said yesterday.

The virtually unbreakable 'plastic glass' containers will be launched by Coors in March and used in more than 62,500 pubs, bars and clubs to serve Carling and Grolsch lager.

The idea came after doctors complained that beer glasses were now a 'major category of weapon' in alcoholfuelled violence.

'There can be restrictions on city or outdoor venues using glass,' a Coors spokesman said: 'So pubs are likely to need an alternative.'
