£64m for Anna, the 14-month wife

Former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith has won a £64 million settlement from the estate of her billionaire husband.

She was 26 when she married 89-year-old oil tycoon J Howard Marshall in 1994. He died 14 months later. Since then she has been locked in a legal battle with his son, E Pierce Marshall.

The settlement, declared the definitive ruling by the judge, works out at around £160,000 for every day of the marriage.

However, it represents a small portion of what she once appeared likely to inherit. Last year a Los Angeles bankruptcy judge awarded her the full £345 million, but six months later a Texas probate court declared her stepson the sole heir.

The case moved to Santa Ana in California, where today a district court judge ruled she was entitled to £32 million in compensatory damages and another £32million in punitive damages.
