Official: BNP is Nazi

Labour hopes to wrest back control of Goresbrook ward in Barking, the BNP's only council seat in the capital which it won last year with 52 per cent of the vote. The Liberal Democrats and Greens have agreed not to stand in today's by-election.

Labour believes a powerful weapon in persuading working-class voters not to back the BNP is to label it as "Nazi" and now a landmark ruling by the Standards Board for England has allowed the description.

The BNP said the label was "extremely offensive".
