New Year's Eve Tube threat

Tube services on New Year's Eve are under threat
13 April 2012

Plans to run all-night Tube services in London on New Year's Eve were under threat today because of a row with union leaders.

The drivers' union Aslef was seeking an extra nine days off a year before agreeing to all-night services on December 31 as well as extended services on Fridays and Saturdays.

Other unions, including the Rail Maritime and Transport and Transport Salaried Staffs Association, were moving towards a deal for a 35-hour week which would see their members agree to work through the night three times a year for special events, including New Year celebrations.

Aslef members already work a 35-hour week and officials have made it clear that, if extra days off or extra pay were not given, drivers will refuse to work late on Fridays and Saturdays or on New Year's Eve.
