Mother kills herself after harming child
A woman was believed to have killed herself today after harming her young daughter who was fighting for life in hospital with multiple injuries.
The child, believed to be about three years old, was taken to hospital after the incident at a block of flats in Maidstone, Kent, in the early hours.
Forensic teams have cordoned off an area around the flats at Hawley Court in London Road while they try to piece together events surrounding the woman's death.
A Kent Police spokeswoman, who confirmed they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, said the girl was being treated for "serious" injuries at a hospital in Maidstone.
She could not reveal the nature of the child's injuries but it is not thought that firearms were involved.
