Men want women at home

British men want women to stay at home with the children while they go to work as the sole breadwinner, a study reveals today.

Nine out of 10 men say it "bothers them" if they are not the main earner and 95 per cent do not want their partner to return to full-time work after giving birth.

However, more than one in 10 women now earn more than their partners, according to figures based

on 2,000 interviews with pregnant women and their partners by Pregnancy and Birth magazine.

Forty-two per cent of women wanted to combine motherhood with a part-time job while half of both women and men did not think it was important to be married. Both sexes said the ideal age for a woman to have a child is 27.
