MANCHESTER United director and investor Amer Al Midani has quit the board of the quoted football club, a week after his associate and friend Martin Edwards sold a £22m stake.

Al Midani, 45, a Lebanese-born multi-millionaire property businessman, became a director of Man Utd at flotation 11 years ago. He has been selling shares in the company and is left with a residual holding worth £670,000.

In April, Al Midani was the subject of a preliminary bankruptcy court hearing in Stockport concerning allegations of owing a £715,000 gambling debt to the Rio Casino in Las Vegas.
