Man in court over Monckton murder

A man appeared in court today charged with the murder of wealthy financier John Monckton.

Damian Hanson, 24, of no fixed address, appeared at West London Magistrates' Court also charged with the attempted murder of Mr Monckton's wife Homeyra Monckton, robbery and conspiracy to rob .

He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on Friday.

Mr Monckton, 49, a senior bonds director with Legal and General, died from stab wounds following an attack in his multi-million pound home in Chelsea, south west London, on November 29 last year. Mrs Monckton was seriously injured.

The couple were discovered at their four-storey home by their nine-year-old daughter.

In December, Elliott White, 24, of Shepherd's Bush, west London, appeared at West London Magistrates' Court charged with the same offences.

He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey. His trial is due to begin in November.
