Madonna to tread London's boards

12 April 2012

Madonna is to make her West End stage debut in a comedy, it was revealed today.

The star's publicist told American magazine People that she would play an ambitious art dealer in Up for Grabs.

The 41-year-old singer is said to want a fresh challenge and the chance to remain at her home in London.

Her West End performance will be the first time in 13 years that she has appeared in a play. Her last outing was on Broadway.

She also acted with then husband Sean Penn in a 1986 off-Broadway play, and before finding fame, wrote her own part in a 1980 filmed play called In Artificial Light.

Most of Madonna's acting career has been in Hollywood where she has appeared in such films as Evita, Who's That Girl? and A League Of Their Own.
