Lydia drums up support for the Welsh Guards

Military service: Lydia Baylis with drummers of the 1st Battalion, Welsh Guards at Buckingham Palace
12 April 2012

Singer-songwriter Lydia Baylis was an honorary guest at the changing the guard ceremony outside Buckingham Palace.

The former Oxford student, 22, is releasing her debut single Starman to raise cash for the Welsh Guards' Afghanistan Appeal, which supports injured soldiers and their families. The regiment is due to return to Afghanistan next year.

Baylis, whose grandfathers, father and uncle served with the Welsh Guards, said: "These brave people put my existence in perspective in that, while I can entertain through my music, my work isn't a matter of life and death like theirs is."
