Ken Livingstone: Give Londoners free travel for Wills' wedding

12 April 2012

Londoners should be given free Tube and bus travel on the day of the royal wedding, Ken Livingstone said today.

Labour's mayoral candidate urged Mayor Boris Johnson to suspend ticketing for the day to help the event go smoothly

Millions of Londoners and visitors are expected to line the streets of the capital to catch a glimpse of the wedding procession as Prince William ties the knot with Kate Middleton.

Although London faces the threat of a Tube strike, Transport for London has pledged to run a good service.

Former Mayor Mr Livingstone said: "Millions of people are going to need to move around London on the day. Many of those will not have Oyster cards or be regular users of the transport network.

"Something practical, rather than just posturing, needs to be done to make the day go smoothly."
