Kandahar blast kills three

At least three US troops have been killed and a number of others injured in an explosion near the southern Afghan city of Kandahar today.

The Pentagon declined to give the number of dead and injured, but intial reports suggest that at least three troops died.

"There are some dead and injured in an explosion that does not appear to be related to hostile fire," said a Pentagon spokesman. "Something exploded in the area near Kandahar."

Todays deaths bring the total number of US fatalities in Afghanistan to 32.
