Julia's bored by Hollywood

Oscar-winning Julia Roberts says she is bored by Hollywood and would rather clean the house than mix with its celebrities.

The star of Notting Hill, Erin Brockovich and Pretty Woman calls the film capital of the world "a place obsessed with all that I find tedious". This incudes: "The narcissistic, egomaniacal, judgmental, meanspirited-sense of showbusiness."

Now married to cameraman Danny Moder, she says she tolerates the darker side of the industry for the sake of her husband's career.

And she insists that the biggest misconception people have about her is "that I'm fascinating". She goes on: "But I don't do anything extraordinary on a day-to-day basis. I try to be a good wife, a good family member, a good friend. I try to do all these tiny things that impact on my circle of the world. But there's nothing grand going on here."

Now 36, Roberts' newest film, Mona Lisa Smile, has her playing a university teacher at a women's college trying to persuade her students that a career is an alternative to finding a husband.

Yet she admits she put off filming because she wanted to be at home with her man. She adds: "It was one of the paradoxes because I was a newly-wed. It was a moment when the focus of my heart was being a housewife."
