John Terry was today in talks with a charity over claims he would donate £8,000 to it from a secret behind-the-scenes tour of Chelsea's training ground.

The England captain has made headlines over allegations that he knew cash was being paid for the tour.

It is claimed that he was present as a middleman accepted £10,000 and that he wanted £8,000 of the money to go to the Make A Wish children's charity.

A spokeswoman for Make A Wish said today the charity was working with his management to "clear everything up".

She added: "We have worked with Mr Terry in the past and have a good relationship with him. But all celebrity donations are completely confidential and we can't discuss them.

"When we have made it clear with his management, we may be able to. We are working on putting out a statement to clear everything up." Chelsea defended their captain over the Sunday newspaper claims. Manager Carlo Ancelotti said: "This is not true. The club, me, the players, have a lot of confidence in John Terry. He did nothing wrong."

An earlier statement from Chelsea said Terry "has a leading role" in hosting visitors and added: "The club is confident that at no time did he ask for or accept money in relation to visits to the training ground. However, we will further review access to our facilities and clamp down where there are gaps in the process."
