Jodie: I'm all spidered up

Supermodel Jodie Kidd donned her own spider outfit for the UK premiere of Spider-Man - and declared that the dress gave her "superpowers".

As if to prove it, she braved a downpour outside the Odeon Leicester Square in the diamond-and-white-gold-studded frock created for her by designer Scott Henshall.

"I'm all spidered up," she said. "In this dress I've got superpowers. It's fantastic."

Spider-Man broke US box office records when it opened, taking £80 million in its first weekend, and is tipped to go straight to No 1 here. After the screening, many in the celebrity audience descended on the In and Out Club for Spider-Man's after-party - where they were joined by Leonardo di Caprio.

The Titanic actor, a close friend of Spider-Man's star Tobey Maguire, stayed hidden under a baseball cap. But Mr Maguire, with a film to promote, was more forthcoming. He said the movie's success was not just down to its multi-million dollar special effects.

"Our director Sam Raimi had a great vision for the film," he said. "Spider-Man is a superhero but not a typical one. He's afflicted with normal teenage problems - he's a relatable, identifiable character."

Maguire's co-star Kirsten Dunst, who wore a dress by Matthew Williamson, added: "It's a comingofage story as much as a superhero movie - Spider-Man is an everyman character."

Guests enjoying the superhero's screen antics last night included Amanda Holden, Richard Branson, Vic Reeves, Jonathan Ross, Gareth Gates, model Nell McAndrew, Nick Faldo and Frank Skinner, along with BBC fashion pundits Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine - who last month were victims of a theft at the Cannes Film Festival.

The pair were chloroformed by raiders as they slept in their villa and robbed of jewellery and other valuables. Ms Woodall said: "If only Spider-Man had been there to save the day."
