Jobless offered drama classes

13 April 2012

Unemployed people are being given free acting lessons to improve their self-confidence, it emerged today.

The six-week drama classes running in Liskeard and Torpoint, south-east Cornwall, aim to boost participants' communication skills.

Organisers say the workshops could also be the first step towards a theatrical career for the jobless people taking part.

Drama therapist Ian Marshall, who is leading the classes, said: "The object of the course is to create self-confidence and well-being through the use of acting techniques.

"It's important to take risks - real or imaginary - to build self-esteem.

"The drama workshop environment will allow students to take risks in a safe and supportive situation."
