Royal love rat James Hewitt is launching a pop career - as a rapper. The former major has teamed up with singer MC Harvey from controversial garage act So Solid Crew.

The unlikely duo hope for a Christmas No.1 with Ding Dong - referring to one of Hewitt's chat-up lines.

Hewitt, who tried to sell love letters from Princess Diana, said: 'I think people have had enough of Sir Cliff Richard, boy bands and Pop Idol. It's time to give the public something more unusual.'

The 45-year-old ex-Army officer and Harvey, 25, penned the number after becoming friends on Channel 4's The Games. Hewitt is from a privileged world while Harvey grew up in the estates of Battersea, South London.

So Solid Crew have been criticised for their violent lyrics and several members have been in trouble with the police.
