Doom

Game Boy Advance

Unlike Ms Messenger, who seems obsessed with the GBA and all the things her midget friend can do, I'm yet to be a convert. But Doom almost made me think twice. Almost. It is identical to the old PS1 game but with fewer controls, so it's a bit less responsive.
I'm impressed that games such as first-person shoot-'em-ups are coming onto the diminutive hand-held's screen, but not so impressed by the juddery, uneven nature of the gameplay. Doom was a great game when it first appeared, but things have moved on, and I think the makers could have included something a bit special to make this a decent proposition. (NP)

Virtua Tennis 2

Dreamcast

The question is, do I 'love' Virtua Tennis 2 or has Sega run out of 'deuce'? I think that has to be the worse joke I've ever made. Nigel's humour seems to be rubbing off on me.
Anyway, VT2 offers players the chance to become one of 16 internationally ranked tennis players - from Venus Williams to Pat Rafter. There are singles, doubles and mixed-doubles matches. The restyled world circuit mode will let you create, train and compete in a host of tournaments as you strive to become ranked number one in the world. The game also has improved player movements including cross-court shots and drop shots.
Not a double fault in sight. (HM)
