Gagging order protects Carr for life

Maxine Carr is today beginning a new life after winning a court injunction which gives her total anonymity.

The order bans the publication of any new name for Carr, address, any treatment she may be receiving and any "depiction-painting, drawing, photograph or film" of her made or taken after her release. It runs for the rest of her life.

But the order does not stop the 27-year-old former girlfriend of Ian Huntley doing television interviews or writing a book.

Carr was freed on Wednesday after serving 21 months for giving Huntley - who killed 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman - a false alibi. The order, one of the toughest seen, was granted on the basis that publication of her whereabouts could be " detrimental" to her safety.

Police sources said Carr was already in a safe house, equipped with panic buttons and safety cameras.
