Fritzl daughter's outing to cellar

Allan Hall13 April 2012

Elisabeth Frizl has been on her first family outing since she and three of her children were freed from a dungeon under their Austrian home, it was reported today.

The 42-year-old incest victim and the children chose to visit the secret cellar where her father imprisoned them. They were accompanied by police gathering evidence for Josef Fritzl's trial next month.

It is thought to be the first time that Elisabeth and her "dungeon children" - Felix, five, Kerstin, 19, and Stefan, 18 - have returned to the family home in Amstetten since they were rescued in April.

They also visited their local police station, taking a cake they had baked for the officers who have been guarding them at a psychiatric clinic. "We were all taken by surprise but delighted that they came to see us," said inspector Karl Gschoepf. Elisabeth was allegedly raped repeatedly by her father during the 24 years she spent underground.

Josef Fritzl, 74, fathered seven children with his daughter, including one who died shortly after birth and whose body he burned in a stove.

Three children were raised above ground by Fritzl's wife Rosemarie, 69, who was told Elisabeth had joined a cult. Rosemarie has moved to Linz after falling out with her daughter.
