Four killed in Baghdad blast

Four people were killed today and up to 20 wounded when a bomb exploded in a crowded Baghdad street.

Police said it was not clear whether the bomb had been inside a car or detonated at the roadside. It exploded in the Azimiyah area, a Sunni Muslim district where support for Saddam Hussein's regime had been strong. It was the latest in a series of blasts in response to the naming of an interim government to take over from the US-led authorities on 30 June.

At least three people died yesterday when a car bomb blew up near the offices of a Kurdish political party in central Baghdad.
