Delays after closure on District line

Tens of thousands of Tube commuters suffered horrific delays today when a key section of the District line had to be shut down.

A train driver reported a damaged set of points at Parsons Green at 6.35am and the line had to be shut between Earl's Court and Wimbledon.

London Underground does not have a spare set of points available and emergency repairs are taking place but there is doubt about whether this will be completed by this evening's rush hour. LU laid on an emergency bus service.

An LU spokeswoman said: "We offer our profuse apologies to passengers but we were left with no alternative but to close the line."

? Connex is increasing the length of trains arriving by 7am tomorrow to cope with the extra demand expected as commuters aim to be in London by 7.30am to watch the England/Brazil game.
