Dealers lose jobs over £44,000 meal

12 April 2012

IN a turn of events likely to provoke a ripple of schadenfreude in many quarters, five City dealers who notoriously ran up a restaurant bill of £44,007 have lost their jobs.

According to The Sunday Telegraph, five of the six Barclays Capital staff who sat round the table at Gordon Ramsays Petrus restaurant last summer have parted ways with the firm following a management probe.

The dealers made the headlines last summer when they dined at the irascible celebrity chef's exclusive - and extremely expensive - restaurant. Their eventual bill included four bottles of wine that cost more than £9,000 each.

Ramsay was so impressed with the display of extravagance that he charged them only for the alcohol they drank.

The newspaper said Barclays Capital refused to comment on the job losses.
