David Jason's show is a Christmas turkey

Sir David Jason's new sitcom The Royal Bodyguard has lost half its audience in a week.

The first episode of the programme, about a former guardsman promoted from working in Buckingham Palace's car park to be the Queen's bodyguard, was watched by eight million people on Boxing Day.

However, on Monday night the audience was just 4.8 million. Viewers took to Twitter to criticise Jason, left. Susie Carr tweeted: "It's cringeworthy. Can hardly bear to watch."

Michael Anderson wrote: "How do shows as dreadful as this get commissioned?"
