Coldplay up for MTV gongs

13 April 2012

Coldplay are leading the British charge at this year's MTV Europe awards, it has emerged.

The chart-topping festival favourites are among seven acts nominated for four prizes at the event in Barcelona next month, along with Eminem and Kylie Minogue.

Coldplay are up for best group but face a battle from U2, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park and No Doubt. They are also in line for the best album prize with Eminem, Kylie, No Doubt and Pink.

The best UK and Ireland category will be contested by Ms Dynamite, Atomic Kitten, Coldplay, Sugababes and Underworld. Announcing the nominations, rap star P Diddy promised the show would be anything but boring.

He said: 'We're going to have a big old party and there's not going to be a dull moment. It doesn't get any sexier than this: MTV, Barcelona and Diddy. We're going to do it Diddy style.'

Chart-topper Pink, Spanish heartthrob Enrique Iglesias, Colombian singer Shakira and Norwegian dance group Royksopp also have four nominations each.
