Chemical leak closes top spa

A chemical leak at a top London spa today caused the building to be evacuated, with hundreds of clients turned away.

Seven fire crews went to The Sanctuary in Covent Garden after toxic fumes were given off by chemicals accidentally mixed together at the swimming pool.

The building was evacuated at 7.30am and the street cordoned off. A male employee was taken to hospital after inhaling the fumes but was discharged.

Pauline Robinson, 60, from Beckenham, was being treated to a ?350 day out for her birthday. She said: "I was really looking forward to it. Now we have to plan something else."
