Brits block plan, say Euro papers

David Cameron's vetoing of a deal to save the single currency sent shockwaves around Europe.

"Merkel and Sarkozy thwarted by the British," declared the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.

"Brits block big plan to save euro," said the online version of the German Spiegel magazine. The Prime Minister's decision to go it alone led French daily Le Monde to proclaim: "Great Britain isolated as never before." The Financial Times Deutschland said: "Europe goes it alone without Britain."

Spanish newspaper El Pais ran the headline: "Europe advances and leaves the UK alone in isolation."

In Italy, Corriere Della Sera headlined: "British 'No', two-speed Europe is born."
