Boris picks PR chief to 'sell' Olympics

12 April 2012

Boris Johnson is to appoint a marketing guru to deliver a legacy for the 2012 Olympics.

Australian Karen Webb will be responsible for attracting sports and cultural events to the Olympic Park.

Among her tasks will be to promote the 600-hectare site in Stratford as a venue for the 2018 football World Cup.

Ms Webb will also try to secure backing for pre-Games events such as a New Year's Eve party in 2011 and concerts.

She has been hired for her experience as a marketing chief for the International Olympic Committee and the Sydney 2000 Games.

Ms Webb will work at Visit London after leaving sports PR firm Vero. The Mayor will announce her appointment tomorrow after pitching the park's opportunities to investors in New York.
