Tennis star Greg Rusedski and his wife Lucy had a lucky escape when a massive blast ripped through a barn they had just walked out of.

The explosion, blamed on a faulty gas canister, happened as they were partying with family and friends at their £2million home.

"They all decided to go back into the main house and as they walked away the blast tore a huge hole in the roof behind them,' said a source.

"The main thing is no one was hurt, though everyone was very shocked."

More than £100,000 worth of damage was caused by the blast at midnight on Christmas Eve in the village of Kirdford, West Sussex.

Former British number one Greg, 33, and Lucy, 29, who have a year-old daughter, had been using gas canisters to keep guests warm in the barn at their 18th Century home.

"A canister exploded but thankfully neither Greg nor myself nor anyone else was hurt. The barn was badly damaged," said Lucy.
