Artistic life after death for gallstones

Body of art: Beatrice Haines and her grandmother’s gallstones at the RCA graduate summer show
12 April 2012

The next generation of young British artists put their work on display at the Royal College of Art's annual graduate summer show which opens today.

The 74 works include Heavenly Bodies, scans made by Beatrice Haines of her dead grandmother's gallstones, as well as an arresting video in the lower gallery of a huge pulsating eye. All the works on display are for sale and some of the country's best-known collectors, including Charles Saatchi, are expected to visit the show.

Haines, of Streatham, said: "I was incredibly close to my grandmother. I have made scans of the gallstones using an electron microscope at Imperial College."
