Arena mulling racecourse casinos

12 April 2012

ARENA Leisure is looking at developing casinos and hotels at some of its racecourses after proposed Government reforms aimed at boosting the gaming industry.

The firm, reporting losses for calendar 2001 roughly in line with market expectations, said it would not pay a dividend for the year but would instead invest the cash in medium-term growth opportunities.

It said it was considering redeveloping some racecourses to include hotels, casinos, gaming halls and 'other non-raceday facilities' to put Arena in the best position to exploit the proposed changes, expected to become law by 2004. Arena reported a pre-tax loss for the year of £6.17m for the year. It lost £6.21m in the nine months to December 2000.
