Actress stabbed herself

Fritha Goodey

An actress due to star in a play committed suicide by stabbing herself in the chest with a kitchen knife, an inquest heard today.

Fritha Goodey, 31, was found by her father Glenn Goodey, a former news editor at The Sun, at her Ladbroke Grove flat last month.

Sergeant Glenn Nicholson said he found Mr Goodey there in a state of distress saying: "It's my daughter, she's killed herself." Two knives and "notes of farewell" were found nearby. Death was caused by a single stab wound,

Westminster coroners' court was told. Miss Goodey, who had fought anorexia for years, had appeared with Hugh Grant in About A Boy.

She had worked in several TV dramas and was due to star with David Suchet in Terence Rattigan's Man and Boy. Coroner Dr Paul Knapman recorded a verdict that she killed herself.

The family issued a statement saying: "Despite her struggle with illness she radiated happiness to all around her. We admire her strength and courage and above all, we love her. We are heartbroken."
