Game of Thrones star Isaac Hempstead Wright has revealed that he was assigned a police officer while studying at university in order to deal with attention from fans.

The 19-year-old, who plays Bran Stark on the hit HBO show, said he struggled with the attention when he began studying Maths and Music at Birmingham University.

“I ended up being assigned a campus police officer. It was all quite surreal,” he told The Telegraph.

“My university address got published in the press, which meant that every time I walked out of my halls pretty much I would have to do a selfie with someone.

“That’s the last thing you want at nine in the morning when you’re trying to go to a maths lecture.”

The actor had to drop out of the course after eight weeks due to the attention, but plans to return to university to study neuroscience when the show’s final season has aired.

“I just want the chance to go and do something of my own accord,” he told the paper.

“I’ve been on this big machine for so long and yet this is still the start of my life. I fell into it when I was so young, I didn’t know what I was doing or where I was going.”

However the actor, who has appeared on Game Of Thrones since 2011, has no regrets about his stint on the show.

“Can you imagine if it had been the other way around and we’d said no and I’d be sitting there watching Game of Thrones having become this huge thing?” he said.

The first episode of Game of Thrones’ eighth season will air in the UK on Sky Atlantic in the early hours of April 15, and will be repeated later that evening.
