Danny Rose accused Jose Mourinho of favouritism and his team-mates of being "s***" in an extraordinary showdown between the left-back and the Tottenham manager, shown in the latest instalments of Amazon Prime's documentary.

The morning after being left out of the squad for the second game running for Tottenham's 0-0 draw at Watford on January 18, Rose requested a meeting with Mourinho.

He demanded to know why he was not playing and took aim at some of his teammates, claiming it was unfair that the same defenders played every match.

The England international later described the selection of Jan Vertonghen and Japhet Tanganga ahead of him as "a slap in the face" and suggested Spurs were trying to sell him to "make money".

Rose subsequently joined Newcastle on loan for the remainder of the season but returned to Spurs at the end of last season.

In his meeting with Mourinho, shown in episode five of All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur, released on Monday, Rose starts in typically-forthright manner.

"Gaffer," he says, "I just want to know what the problem is?

"You know exactly what I mean. How I'm being treated. I was very excited when you came as manager but if you don't want me to play, I'd rather you just told me now and I'll stay at home, gaffer. I'll train at home."

When Mourinho tells him he "didn't play well" in his last appearance, a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on January 11, Rose agrees but insists he is not the only player underperforming.

"I respect what you're saying about I didn't play well against Liverpool, which is true," he tells Mourinho. "But I play once every four weeks. Do you want me to be man of the match and give my best performance when I play one game every three or four weeks?

"The defence has kept two clean sheets. They play every game. It's not fair.

"OK, I wasn't good [against Liverpool]. You were right and I respect what you say. But other people have been s*** in training, s*** in games but play every game and are in the squad every game. It's not fair."

"That's your perspective," replies Mourinho.

"It's facts," continues Rose. "The whole changing room know it's facts! Not fair. And I'm going to see Daniel [Levy, Tottenham chairman] as well. So when Daniel's in, tell him I'm looking for him."

As they both leave the manager's office, the scene concludes with Mourinho telling Rose: "I think you are an honest guy. I think you should open your mouth to everyone."

Rose says: "Yeah, I will."

In a subsequent interview for the documentary, Rose admits that he cannot "play every game" but suggests Mourinho's selection decisions are insulting.

"I have to be able to have an honest debate or conversation with somebody," Rose said. "He is a very straight-talker, as am I. Obviously I do want to play every weekend possible but at the same time I know football doesn't work like that. He's the manager and I have to respect him because only 11 people can play.

"You have to realise you can't play every game. It's something you just have to come to terms with as you get close to your 30s. I've spent pretty much all my professional career at this club and I just wish I was involved.

"I fully believe in myself that I am Tottenham's best left-back still. I can't watch centre-backs and right footed centre-backs play in my position. It's a slap in the face, basically.

"Everybody has a price in football and sometimes when you get to a certain age or have a certain number of years left of your contract, people who work within a football club will think now its time to move somebody on and get somebody younger in. It's a business. It aims to make money so you have to try not to take that too personally."

Footage from the documentary also reveals Rose was keen to move to Milan – although it is unclear if he means Internazionale or AC Milan.

"Milan is a no at the moment," Levy tells him during a meeting in the cafeteria. "Because they were hoping to sell someone to PSV and it hasn't happened. Things can change."

In a separate meeting with Mourinho, Levy reveals Bournemouth and Newcastle are the only clubs interested in signing Rose on loan and says the defender is damaging his own career by setting his sights too high. "He's so silly because he's hurting himself," Levy tells Mourinho.
